Frolick Dogs, a canine sports club opened June 2014 in Alexandria, VA, provides a friendly, safe and positive environment where owners can bring their dogs year-round to keep fit, have fun, strengthen their bond and reinforce good behavior.
We offer a range of services including gym memberships, day boarding, agility classes, self-grooming, wellness seminars, and space rental for special events. Our building at 3208 Colvin St provides 4800 square feet of dog-friendly space including an agility ring and a sun-lit mezzanine for our day boarding dogs to enjoy.
This family-owned and operated business is run by a husband-and-wife team, benefiting from the expertise of Kevin Gilliam, a top-rated dog trainer at the Olde Towne School for Dogs for 7 years, and the management experience of Kim Gilliam, with an Ivy League MBA and background in business.
Kevin Gilliam, Co-Owner & Obedience Trainer
Kevin brings 7 years of experience as a dog trainer at the prestigious Olde Towne School for Dogs in Alexandria where he worked with over 500 area dogs and their owners on everything from puppy socialization to obedience to off-leash training. He has a deep understanding of canine behavior and is knowledgable in numerous methods and approaches for working with dogs, on-hand as an invaluable resource and skilled dog handler.
Kim Gilliam, Co-Owner
Kim is excited to combine her life-long passion for animals with 10+ years of management experience and an MBA from Cornell University. Her primary focus is on marketing & communications to ensure the successful launch and operations of the business, but she is also skilled at working with various dogs and their owners to ensure they get the most out of their gym time!
Sherri Fries, Agility Trainer
Sherri has been competing in agility since 2003, showing her dogs in both AKC and USDAA agility where she has competed at both Nationals. Her first agility dog, Cleo, was Hawaii's first MACH (Master Agility Champion). Sherri currently competes with border collies Wiki Wiki (fast fast in Hawaiian) and Wiki's puppies Raptor and Spitfire who have just begun their agility careers. Sherri supports positive reinforcement training and more than anything loves to see dogs and their owners having fun!

Linda Keens, Agility Trainer
Linda got started in agility in 2011 thanks to her Novice A (first) dog, a shy rescue-mix named Amber. Linda signed Amber up for their first agility class because “it sounded like fun!” They never expected to be competing at the highest level after just a few short years. In 2015, Amber earned her Championship title in NADAC, in 2016 she earned her Championship title in AKC, and in 2017 she qualified and attended AKC Nationals. She is currently one Super Q away from her Championship title in USDAA. Linda loves introducing new teams to the world of agility. She says there is nothing more rewarding then watching a new team learn and grow together.
Rusty O'Connor, Events Manager
Rusty is thrilled to combine twenty years of events planning and ten years of agility training into the greatest job ever - throwing parties for dogs and the people they love. She looks forward to making your Frolick event fun for both ends of the leash. When she's not Frolicking, Rusty can usually be found knitting something or running agility courses with her enthusiastic but not exactly gifted dog, Scooter.
Brian Umbach, Fitness Coach & Obedience Trainer
We have known Brian for a while -- he led an outstanding Pet First Aid & CPR training for our staff -- but officially welcomed him to the Frolick team in March 2018. In 2012 he retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service. The majority of his career he was a military working dog handler, trainer and trainer supervisor. Brian attended the Military Working Dog Handler Course in 1998, was selected as the Top Dog Graduate and attended the Kennel Master Course in 2006. He was stationed at Joint Base Andrews and traveled throughout the world providing explosive detector support for the presidential mission. He started obedience training for friends in 2004 and decided to continue training dogs upon his retirement from the Air Force.
Brandon Craig, Fitness Coach
Brandon is the newest member of the Frolick Dogs dayboarding team. Formerly a 2017 Summer Intern, he was excited to rejoin Frolick when he moved back to the area in May 2019. Amazingly, many of the dogs he worked with as an intern recognized him and were so excited to have him back! Brandon gained customer service experience working at Jersey Mike’s and valuable workplace experience at Lumber 84, but is excited to get back to Frolick where he can tap into his passion for dogs. He has two dachshunds at home but is comfortable working with all dog breeds and sizes.
Colin Muir, Fitness Coach
Colin moved to the US from the UK in June 2015 and has the accent to prove it! He has 2 1/2 years experience of working with dogs of various breeds and sizes in a daycare environment. Joining Frolick in September 2018, he has enjoyed learning about our clients’ dogs and having the chance to work with them in smaller groups and one-on-one. Colin adopted a rescue dog through his previous job; a beagle mix named Dana. He also has a huge cat called Dean.
Justin Ashby, Fitness Coach
Justin joined Frolick three days a week in July 2018 as the newest member of the dayboarding staff, bringing 4 years of hands-on experience at area dog daycares where he quickly moved into management roles. He also works at VCA Alexandria as an emergency coordinator, is a volunteer firefighter with Fairfax County, and is an avid fisherman. Justin has two dogs of his own at home, husky-mix Reese and lab Trout.
Kimberlee Grimes, Fitness Coach
Kimberlee (Kim) joined us in December 2018 as a fitness coach. She happily greets the dogs arriving for dayboarding each morning and works hard to ensure they stay safe while playing in the gym. Her 4+ years of experience working with dogs — at boarding facilities, animal shelters, and as a dog walker — has given her deep insight on dog behavior and body language, making her a strong addition to the team. Kim has a German Shepherd named Gracie and a dog-like cat named ODogg.
Danny Gibson, Saturday Gym Manager
Danny joined the Frolick Dogs team in April 2019 to take over management of the gym on Saturdays. He comes to us with 4 years of dog daycare experience — highly recommended by his former colleague Colin — where his calm, even-keeled demeanor served him well. During the week, Danny works for a local home staging company, keeping him active and physically fit. He has a sweet senior pit mix named Dari who was a failed foster (was only fostered for about an hour before she won them over) and a goofy basset hound named Lucy who has a big personality to match her long ears!
