Frolick Dogs, a canine sports club opened June 2014 in Alexandria, VA, provides a friendly, safe and positive environment where owners can bring their dogs year-round to keep fit, have fun, strengthen their bond and reinforce good behavior.
We offer a range of services including gym memberships, day boarding, agility classes, self-grooming, wellness seminars, and space rental for special events. Our building at 3208 Colvin St provides 4800 square feet of dog-friendly space including an agility ring and a sun-lit mezzanine for our day boarding dogs to enjoy.
This family-owned and operated business is run by a husband-and-wife team, benefiting from the expertise of Kevin Gilliam, a top-rated dog trainer at the Olde Towne School for Dogs for 7 years, and the management experience of Kim Gilliam, with an Ivy League MBA and background in business.
Kevin Gilliam, Co-Owner
Kevin brings 7 years of experience as a dog trainer at the prestigious Olde Towne School for Dogs in Alexandria where he worked with over 500 area dogs and their owners on everything from puppy socialization to obedience to off-leash training. He has a deep understanding of canine behavior and is knowledgable in numerous methods and approaches for working with dogs, on-hand as an invaluable resource and skilled dog handler.
Kim Gilliam, Co-Owner
Kim is excited to combine her life-long passion for animals with 10+ years of management experience and an MBA from Cornell University. Her primary focus is on marketing & communications to ensure the successful launch and operations of the business, but she is also skilled at working with various dogs and their owners to ensure they get the most out of their gym time!
Bill Keens, Agility Trainer
Bill started in agility with a timid rescue-mix named Amber. He attended agility classes with his wife and Amber, and while coaching and watching them grow, developed a deep love for the sport. In 2012, he started training his first Border Collie, Titan. Bill and Titan advanced quickly through the ranks, qualifying to compete at the national-level in AKC, USDAA and UKI before Titan turned five. In 2015, Bill and Titan were selected as alternates for AKC’s European Open team and in 2016 took third place at AKC’s National Agility Championship in the 26” height class.
While Bill enjoys competing, his real passion is for International handling and studying different handling techniques. He is training to become a One Mind Dogs instructor and loves the “ah-ha” moments when Titan teaches him new things. Bill would love to share what he has learned from Titan with you.
Sherri Fries, Agility Trainer
Sherri has been competing in agility since 2003, showing her dogs in both AKC and USDAA agility where she has competed at both Nationals. Her first agility dog, Cleo, was Hawaii's first MACH (Master Agility Champion). Sherri currently competes with border collies Wiki Wiki (fast fast in Hawaiian) and Wiki's puppies Raptor and Spitfire who have just begun their agility careers. Sherri supports positive reinforcement training and more than anything loves to see dogs and their owners having fun!

Rusty O'Connor, Events Manager
Rusty is thrilled to combine twenty years of events planning and ten years of agility training into the greatest job ever - throwing parties for dogs and the people they love. She looks forward to making your Frolick event fun for both ends of the leash. When she's not Frolicking, Rusty can usually be found knitting something or running agility courses with her enthusiastic but not exactly gifted dog, Scooter.
Helen Narvasa, Fitness Coach
Helen is a long-time Frolick Dogs volunteer and officially joined the Frolick Dogs family September 2016. Her life-long love for animals led her to volunteer for dog-related experiences, such as dog park president, dog therapy team for People Animals Love, dog handler for adoptable dogs, etc. After 10+ years of management experience in the policy and information technology arena, Helen took the leap to focus on her passion for animals. She will help open the new location and will help ease Frolick Dogs through its exciting growing pains!
Lauren Ramirez, Fitness Coach
Lauren joined Frolick Dogs as a fitness coach in May 2016 but left in December of that year to have her precious baby girl. We are excited to welcome her back as she frequently works Saturdays with our dayboarding dogs and gym members. She is passionate about working with dogs, knowledgable of canine behavior, and has a sheltie named JoJo who loves to learn tricks and a malamute mix named Wolfie who enjoys volunteering as a therapy dog. Lauren is a 2015 graduate of the Starmark Academy for Professional Dog Trainers with 5 years of related work experience including obedience training, dog walking, plus serving as a vet assistant & grooming assistant.
Susan Gruber, Fitness Coach
Susan joined the Frolick Dogs family March 2015 making her our longest-serving staff member! With an extensive background in animal behavior and dog training, nothing gives her more joy than seeing the surprise, pride, and joy on a client’s face when they see just how smart and talented their dog is as they learn new things at Frolick. Susan gained her animal handling experience as a Zoo Keeper at the Reston Zoo and a Dog Trainer at PetSmart.
Tayler Hudson, Fitness Coach
Tayler joined Frolick Dogs in November, 2016 shortly after moving to Alexandria, VA from Chicago. Her main focus is on exercising the dayboarding dogs, with over 5 years of experience at a doggie daycare small business back home where she had an impressive track record of increased responsibility.
